FILMS I have watched recently
Feb. 14th, 2009 02:32 amFilms I have watched recently (being snowed in might have had something to do with it):
Rambo (2008): not bad, does what it says on the can...I still only really like the first one and rate that a very good film, but this one gets back to the original significantly, up to and including flashbacks to First Blood.
Jason and The Argonauts (1963)
Has to be seen, because, no matter how special the special effects can be, this is the beginning of it all, and to me, this is still more impressive than the most perfect CGI. I don't find what these first, stolid, imperfect semi-mobile models convey in modern, contemporary special effects. I just don't.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
I never had much liking for superheroes a la Marvel and Dc (I liked Tex Willer much more) until recently, but I always had a soft spot for the Silver Surfer. I am pretty sure I did a some point read a comic or two about him. The film was...bah. Okay, I guess. I like Michael Chicklis and Jessica Alba, but the only bits I really enjoyed where the ones with the Silver Surfer :D
The Punisher (2004)
Does what it says, tells the story of The Punisher, a revenge story...I think I saw solid glimpses of slash possibilities, yes yes, and John Travolta plays a cool, evil, funny bad guy, the supporting characters were good if stereotyped, the lead actor, Thomas Jane..uhm, no. Sorry, but very wooden. Apparently it's a choice? Still...*knocks on him* wooden. Ops *g*
Erik the Viking (1989)
Eeeeh, this was fun :) Dated as to pacing, but still good fun, good casting, inventive film. I enjoyed watching it and would watch it again.
Princess Bride (1987)
"My name is Inigo Montoya. 20 years ago you killed my father. Prepare to die." Ahhh, Mandy Patinkin, you're sooo good :D Hadn't watched it whole before, just bits and pieces, so I was glad I was able to finally watch it all. (Somewhat spoiled by a certain someone mentioning a certain someone else right at the beginning, but apart from that...) Robin Wright is MY Eowyn and will always be, I like her :) And the film is a fun romp from beginning to end, with lots of witty dialogue and silly stuff. But I am sure you all know already ;)
Trumpton (1967)
Okay, not technically a film, but I was intrigued in watching this, which I understand is a children tv classic here in the UK. I found it charming and hypnotic and I am pretty sure there were evil subliminal messages of some kind or another, but still...a lively audience and witty comments made it a very enjoyable watching :)
Drive (1997)
You know what, this was a solid buddy couple, lots of fights and chasing buddy movie, with a quirky female character thrown in mid-way. The film delivers exactly what it promises, and I enjoyed watching it. Mark Dacascos (Crow TV series, Brotherhood of the Wolves, Crying Freeman et al) is cool and funny and fights like hell, and Brittany Murphy plays this crazier than crazy girl I found delicious, and it was a fun watch overall.
Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979)
Eh. FUN. Fun fun fun fuuuun :D Hadn't seen this in aaaages, and yet, it holds the test of time beautifully. Still funny (as intriguingly socially pertinent) as I remembered it. And, it has ALIENS. *ggg*
The Bone Hunter (2003)
kiltboy is in it, and he well knows what a bad film it is, though it's great fun to hear him commenting the film as you watch it...so much so that I sort of started liking tiny bits of it, LOLOL...but no, really. It's BAD. BAAAD BAD. Really BAD. Practically no budget, insufficient story/plot, poor actors trying to squeeze something out of the BAAAD script...the fights are good! *g* Though I really want to see the sequel, filmed in 2006, Axe Riders! Kiltboy finally got a copy, so I will watch it eventually.
I Spit on Your Grave, aka Day of the Woman, aka Revenge of a Woman (1978)
..I watched it because it was mentioned in SPN and I had no memories of it...and I will have to make a separate post for it (and about it being in SPN), because it's late and the the brain is asleep. But I will.
and
HARD CORE LOGO (1996)
WOW.
I mean. WOW. *clings to it and pets it*
WOW.
Loved it :D
