ART: Krycek's Lair in the Nexus
Jul. 10th, 2007 05:53 pmNexus!Krycek has a few secret places he hides in, feral pretty boy that he is...
disanddat and
lorelei633 were discussing it and describing it and my fingers itched... (also, drawing, like knitting, is the best relaxing/anti-anxiety activity, I swear. Makes me feel good. Love it.)
...I'm getting SLIGHTLY better at using Painter. Slightly being the key word there ;) There are a few things that I really like in this illo, and some that I'm not as happy with, but it's always going to be a learning curve.
Any comment/critic very much welcome, tell me what works and what doesn't for you.
One final note: photobuckets shrinks the original due to its size (1000x800 px) - so the version under the cut is smaller than it should be and it suffers for it a little. I'll see if I can upload it somewhere else, and ETA accordingly if successful.
ETA: bigger size in LJ Scrapbook
I also apologise because I have to reply to email/comments, but couldn't face it yet

More bones. Pointy bits. Love the scribbles on the wall. SCULLY! Still a bit freaked by the drawing of the monster with the black centre. You worked the map in there beautifully. I dearly love the pose you twisted him into. And you know how I feel about that one bandaged, bloody foot. *sighs* The lines of the folded blanket. I can tell it's cloth and not just some blocky object. The boot... is that John's? *another happy sigh*
On a wider view... you've shaded into the corner just right, given it depth. Everything looks just a tad bit dirty, which is perfect.
All in all, a truly lovely piece of work. He looks vulnerable and dangerous at the same time. I adore it.

Date: 2007-07-10 06:37 pm (UTC)(I;ll upload it to the nexus comm later on)
the bigger version IS better, the details are clearer.
Can you see Mulder written on the wall too?
(gotta run, dinner's burning!)

Date: 2007-07-10 08:19 pm (UTC)The bleeding foot..I love it too. He's hiding from John and Max, or John would have Max healing it and get into K's brain, and he doesn't like that, no-no. So he wraps it up (with way too white bandages, but I liked the contrast, they'll be dirty by the time he's walked miles with them) and limps in the dark. The boot has to be John's, because K's lost his other one when he was hurt. Methinks *G* (I tried going for an army-coat thingy but it won and I lost. Ops.)
There's a fundamental flaw, in that the nexus walls should be metallic.....next time I'll remember it *G* but I do like the rest enough :D
Soooo...if I were to wish for some more of the Incredible Nasty Vampire!Boys...what drawing would get me that? *bats eyelashes v. v. prettily*

Date: 2007-07-10 08:34 pm (UTC)Oooo... you've got a whole story here.
Keeping in mind that you're not terribly comfortable drawing faces... a body and scenery pose might be easier for you... and you know everyone and their pervy inner fangirl would like it... Sammy struggling against tentacles. You know y'wanna do it. His face would be half covered by tendrils and his own hair... maybe his clothes would be half off. *nudge nudge*

Ohmy! I'm shocked! Are you suggesting I draw Tentacle!p0rn? *GGGG*

And yes, I love the Nexus too: it may very well be a fandom of five, six? but it's brilliant :D

Basically, a bunch of favorite guys (including John and the boys from SPN) from diff fandoms thrown together in a claustrophobic environment: great fun!
And, I LOVE that you love the drawing. Thank you for telling me :)
I'm de-rusting myself, haven't drawn for several years (and I'm just realizing when I stopped exactly, which is ..uhm...let's move on) and also learning to draw on a pc tablet and pen, witha program called Painter (amazing, really, to use a computer tool and have it come up as pencil, as chalk, as watercolor...of course, there's mess and disasters, but I think you can see improvement from the previous drawing to this one).
There was a time where I would draw several hours each day. Those were good times. I'll draw more John eventually, too! :D
Thank you *hugs* and I owe you email, I know! I'll get to it asap, tell you about the delay.
Happy you like it! Also...you can still learn to draw if you want to! Yes, part of it is talent, but a big part of it is craft, and craft can be learnt. I swear. More in email.:)

Date: 2007-07-13 03:53 am (UTC)I've tried to learn to draw. Got a couple of those big softcover "How to Draw...." when I was younger, and a stranger looking horse you have NEVER seen!! ;)

Date: 2007-07-13 09:10 am (UTC)lolol
But, starting with a horse? Nope. A horse is damn tough to draw!
The very first thing one should do is just lines, to get the fingers+pencil fluid; and practice 'tratteggio', parallel lines in any direction which one will use for shadowing later on.
One of the most important tricks to learn is not to look at the object, ie a horse, but only at the shapes that make it such. Otherwise, it's our mental idea of 'horse' that we're trying to draw, the one in our brain, not the one in front of our eyes...and I hope it makes sense! ;)

Date: 2007-07-13 08:54 am (UTC)Do you think there should be brief synopsis to intro the guys on the userinfo page? would that help? It being a multifandom 'verse, it takes either fans of many fandoms or curious minds to read it...it would make sense to make it easier, don't you think?
And thank you for reading! Most of it it's written by disanddat :D

Date: 2007-07-13 03:51 pm (UTC)As I have no idea why Michael shouldn't hear John and Max having sex, a lot of the nuances of the scene were just lost on me.
As for drawing, I'll take your word for it that you can learn to draw. Now then....where's my pencil??
