Soooo...a question :)
Sep. 17th, 2007 02:44 pmWhat's your comfort-watching film and/or TV show?
Either an all-time favourite or the favourite of the moment will do.
For me, for the past year or so, comfort watching is definitely The Cutting Edge.
Yes, yes, I know, it's a romantic boy-meets-girl/gets-girl film, which, uhm, as far from my usual range of favourite genres as possible, but...D.B. Sweeney. Paul Michael Glaser directing. Moira Kelly and her not-yet-LaserWhite-Hollywwod teeth (bitchy of me, I know, but actually, she is just adorable in this role). Ice skating. Simple dialogues but delivered so well. A classic 'buddy couple' feel to it.
And D.B. Sweeney, in case you forget. *G*
Harsh Realm is also in the comfort watching list, as is LotR, but then the latter is angsty-comfort *wails for Boromir* and also, if I watch LotR, I need to be able to watch it all, which is quite a lot.
So, yes, for the moment and for the recent past, The Cutting Edge is my snuggle bunny, a hour or so of relaxing and not thinkign much and mellow feelings.
And D.B. Sweeney.;)
So. How about you? :D

Date: 2007-09-17 02:20 pm (UTC)As far as comfort movies, we tend to watch zombie apocalypse movies when we're unhappy. Resident Evil 2, Evil Dead, and Doom all worked well for us. Also, Dead and Breakfast, with JDM's commentary.

I adore DB, as much as JDM *nods*
(and I adore TCE too, for DB but for everything else too, even the music, lol)
Have you seen Shaun of the Dead? (I liked Doom!)

Date: 2007-09-17 02:45 pm (UTC)The original Stargate movie is one of my "comfort" filmes, as are the first three or four years of the Stargate TV series. X-Men 1 & 2, Independence Day, Timeline, they're all things I can put in and just kick back and space out with. "While You Were Sleeping" also fits the bill, though I tend to save it for a "Christmas" movie. (And LotR would be, but yeah, there's that whole "need two entire days practically" to watch it all--and I want to watch it all if I put one in. ;-)

Date: 2007-09-17 09:57 pm (UTC)It's only six/seven eps, it's available on Amazon with CC's commentary and interviews, etc. and honestly, if you like D.B., you have to see HR!
(and yes, DB is totally adorable and cute in TCE)
I like the SG movie too...and yes, scifi space/adventure films are good for comfort watching :)

Navigator I've seen on the telly, but didn't strike me particularly, for whatever reason.

But yes, comfort watching is something that lets you 'be', so to speak, no thinking, no violent jarring of emotions :D
Sister Act is funny, I adore Miss Goldberg.

Date: 2007-09-17 04:24 pm (UTC)Tearjerker and nearest thing I get to a girly movie; 'Somewhere in Time'. I just find it so beautiful and sweet!
Oddly enough, my comfort show is probably Buffy the Vampire Slayer, yet I wouldn't say it's my *favourite* show, that would still be Oz.

Date: 2007-09-17 09:13 pm (UTC)Interesting enough, and part of the reason why of my question, I don't know the films you mention. Will have a look, thanks :)

Date: 2007-09-18 01:56 pm (UTC)And oh yes. Richie...and Duncan...and Methos. Mustn't forget Methos. Dear lord, it's the show that made me internally combust just by watching a guy holding a sword. *facepalm*

Date: 2007-09-17 06:49 pm (UTC)But I wanted to say that I've received your postcard! I think that if Mulder and Krycek met in front of Coliseum, Mulder would have voiced smthg about it being eternally there as a symbol of Roman grandeur, but Krycek joked about gladiators and how sexy Mulder would look in a leather skirt. :)

Date: 2007-09-17 07:17 pm (UTC)Tearjerker and comfort film: the LOTR trilogy, because it still works for me (as my fandom clearly shows)
Tearjerker films: "Forrest Gump", "Alatriste", "Indian Runner"
Comfort series: "Pride and Prejudice" (the BBC adaption with Collin Firth), "House"
What, me, a film geek? ;)

ALATRISTE! Is the damn film avaialble anywhere???
I so want to see it, I really like the first book and I'm sure Viggo is awesome in the role. *stomps feet*
I've seen all of the above, except P&P - Colin Firth is okay, but that's it, and I never felt the desire to watch the adaptation.
Hidalgo is a perfect comfort watching film *nods*
:)

You can get a Spanish version with English subtitles at DVDgo (http://www.dvdgo.com). They have reasonable prices and very fast deliveries (it took them three days to get it to an acquaintance in the US and two days to get it to me in Germany).
Besides, as an appetizer, I have a review of the film up at my LJ (fifth or so entry from the top at the moment) ;)
And yay, for having similar taste...*hugs*
