SPN 03 05: Bed Time stories
Nov. 3rd, 2007 12:12 amFor the record?
I loved this episode. Loved it. It felt like a first season episode with the added weight of two seasons of mythology.
Loved it and watched it twice, one after the other.
The car argument at the beginning, after the teaser?
There's NO getting rid of John! *insert loud evil laugh*
DEAN: Sam, enough! I'm not gonna have this conversation
SAM: Why, because you said so?
DEAN: Yes, because I said so!
Sam: Well, you're not Dad!
...intense look between them.
DEAN: No but I am the oldest..
SAM: *snorts*
DEAN:..and I'm doing what's best! Sam, you gotta let this go, you understand me?
SAM:...*mad silence*
I just love it.
I should be more articulate about it, but I'm too sleepy/brain-dead.
Still, Dean's voice echoing John's tones - not as much as the full-on imitation Dean did at John's grave in WIAWSB - and John's words, and Sam recognizing that AND throwing it back in Dean's face...and telling him, you're not DAD, you don't have the right to sacrifice yourself for ME, I won't let YOU.DAD WAS AN ASS! *coughs*
Can you hear the hundreds of conversations that Sam must have with John, just like this?
Driving John totally crazy?
*happy grin*
I firmly believe that Dean has had his own share of fights with John, though: "Smoking and throwing bottles at people, that sounds more like me" says Dean in BuaBS, and it sounded the voice of experience, to me, not just a line. Dean has embraced hunting when he was 16 (as he says to Gordon in Bloodlust)...that means he had a close understanding with John AS A HUNTER, but Dean as a teenager when the 'family business' wasn't involved?
A running-after-every-skirt, daredevil of a boy.
I love it.
I love it when they argue like that.
I love that Jensen and Jared have such a great understanding of their characters, that they have such a great chemistry between them that that one, long look and the silences say as much as their lines.
And I love that John is still WITH them!

Date: 2007-11-04 12:59 am (UTC)Dean...I may be reaching, but the look in his yes when Sam says 'you're not dad'...so much all wrapped together into that one single look, and my take is that he knows he's channeling John, and feels a little guilty about it, a little proud, a little ashamed, a little hurt.
:)
