Yet another quick RL update
Apr. 2nd, 2008 07:13 pmMy cat Mimmi apparently has lymphatic cancer, we're waiting for more test results :(
I have 75 emails/comments to reply to in my inbox. Getting there. Sorry for the long wait.
I have decided to write 500 words daily, whatever the fiction. I have a long list of stories I need to finish/edit/work on and so on. Step by step, right? *G*
Have read three of Torchwood books:
Slow Decay, Border Princes and Another Life.
Another Life is the weakest of the three, imo, and the characters sounded quite OOC to me.
Slow Decay had the major fault of considering a size 16 girl a "..big, big girl". Didn't matter if she was tall or had a solid bone structure or what, size was the only defining parameter of her 'bigness'.
Border Princes was the one I enjoyed reading the most, and the one that read like an episode in many ways.
Also read Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. An interesting read, very easy. I really like the choices made in the TV series, though, relative to characters and a few changes of events.

Date: 2008-04-02 06:40 pm (UTC)Glad to hear you enjoyed Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I love the books (although I found the most recent the weakest), but agree that the TV series made some good choices in tweaking events. I don't know if you've seen Season 2 yet or not, but it completely diverges from the novels, and I really feel like it went downhill badly and violated some basic tenants of Dexter as a character. Anyway, I hope they recover themselves for S3. /my two cents

Date: 2008-04-03 10:38 am (UTC)I have seen season two, but I haven't read the books apart from the first one, so I have no terms of comparison yet. I found season 2 interesting...but yes, I'm looking forward to season 3 too :)

Date: 2008-04-02 07:13 pm (UTC)You have to get hold of the audiobooks. Check my journal for a couple friendslocked posts. Another Life is infinitely hilarious when John Barrowman is reading it to you. You really haven't lived until you've been walking down the street, minding your own business, wondering when the hell this boring Owen subplot is going to become relevant, and then all of a sudden John Barrowman is reading what sounds like the beginnings of bad pornfic in your ear. It was a very surreal moment. Don't listen to the tentacle monster fight in public, though. Completely losing the ability to stifle your laughter when all you've got is an MP3 player makes you look a bit crazy.
I started Border Princes today, though, and I'm seriously impressed with Eve Myles's reading so far - she's really playing up the creepiness of the story to excellent effect. The story itself is getting off to a MUCH better start than AL or Hidden; I've been listening to these for hilarity purposes only, but I'm really hoping this one stays good. It had me totally enthralled and forgetting to eat my lunch.
