We could be heroes, by [livejournal.com profile] missyjack

I read it yesterday, and I'm still quite in awe. It's maybe not fiction in the usual sense of the word, it's intertextual, meta-fiction, and it's funny and a little heartbreaking and epic with it. I suppose it's probably as much about us fans and what we do with stories than it is about the Winchester boys, it mixes canon, fanon, and popular culture...it's worth reading, because it's in a niche of its own, and oh yes, I loved it. :)

John Winchester is Luke Skywalker’s real father.

thank you, thank you. Your rec and review means a huge amount to me, because I really struggled with the fact that my fic wasn't a traditional narrative. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I found it harder to judge how well it has worked. You've made my day!

You're very welcome, and if I had had more time i would have written more about your story :D yes, I can see how the structure makes it unusual in fanfiction terms, but I LOVE it, it says more than most traditional fanfics manage to ever say.
Thank you again, this is one that gets printed and binded :)

Quick question: is the tall tale a truly unique American narrative form? I'd research myself if I could spare the time, thought asking you was quicker, sorry! :)

I would say no. A tall tale - one involving exaggeration of events and feats - is pretty common i think in the folk tales of many cultures. We certainly have our own unique ones in Australia.
