I'm not sure how many of you still having on your flist are following Supernatural (my fault for not being around much)...but oh I like season 8 as much as I liked the first three seasons.
I finally managed to catch up with it (marathoning eps from 12 to 19)(thanks to finally having a working pc!), and I loved all of it.

Benny's story and friendship with Dean is heartbreaking and wonderful. Probably my favourite storyline after John's.

Seeing all characters coming back was great, and the new ones are good and intriguing on their own. Loved discovering more about John, his father (and yes, yes yes to Dean sticking up for John :DDD and the Hunters/Men of Letters combo.

Many many funny Typical Dean lines :DDD

One specific thing annoyed me in ep 19 (Sam had Lucifer in his head, why can't they believe Kevin has Crowley in his???), but apart from that...

ILU Supernatural! :)
And Fandom, of course, which I miss very much.

As to other TV...

I watched the first two eps of Revolution. All I could tolerate, to be honest. I can see shades of Dean in the girl, but the whole thing didn't grab me at all.

Defiance seemed okay, at least I enjoyed watching the pilot. None of the characters grab me intensely (if only D.B. Sweeney was in it!) but the whole aliens and humans mixed together thing it's interesting. Reminds me of Farscape a bit, in a good way.

Following friendly advice (you know who you are), I watched the first season of Call the Midwives and I'll get the second one asap, because I loved it. It was gentle, funny, and very watchable, imo. I also adore Miranda Hart, so that was a plus.

I do miss being a Fan of a series, proper, like I was/am of the Pros and of SPN and a few other things...but nothing seems to strike at the moment. Oh well :)
I whined about it before, sorry :)

I keep forgetting about KIVA and TEAM FANDOM...but thankfully [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown reminded me :)

Fandom is good for so many things and this is just one of many, but not less important.
Have a look: Team Fandom and KIVA

To get the fandom squee out first....

A Points community! \0/

Introduction post HERE

What is that, you may ask?

It's a community for fans of the Point of Hopes and Point of Dreams books, by Lisa A. Barnett and Melissa Scott: "discussion and fanworks of all types (fic, art, icons, vids if you can work out how to vid a novel). Discussion and fanworks related to Melissa Scott's other novels are also welcome," as the userinfo page says.

Point of Hopes and Point of Dreams are two excellent fantasy books, whose main characters are losely avatars for Bodie and Doyle from The Professionals (it's really so clear there is no point denying it), but they are excellent because of the world-build up they do, the details, the plots...wonderful, wonderful books (and yes, absolutely NOT heterocentric and slash-friendly!!!).
You don't have to be a Pros fan to enjoy them, at all, that's just an added bonus. If you feel like reading something well plotted, intriguing and adventurous and imaginative, do pick the books up and give them a try, seriously.

RACE09

I've been reading through the excellent links collection compiled by [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong, HERE (kudos and bowing to [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong for providing such a resource), and OHMY. There is a little I can say, really, the amount of FAIL is impressive, and as a white woman, I know that my place is to stand aside and listen and learn - as a woman, I know that I want to hear female voices, more and more - as an Italian, I want to make a little space for my own culture, a nieche, where not all Italians in films and books are gangsters/mafiosi, or catholics, or immigrants, or spaghetti-eaters, or have big families,...inasmuch as I find myself in the position of someone who has actually moved to an English-speaking country and partly embraced it, though, so, yes, controversial in my self of all places, but I did it because...my corner of the world felt so small...

Anyway, in between all the links, these jumped out at me:

Something fun to do...and I can't believe Krycek is losing !!!
John Winchester fans are a minority, I knew that already, and Dean can win :D
And many more fandoms to play with!
A fun poll, go ahead and play :D

LINKS

The Nick Lea.com Christmas 2008 online zine, because Nick Lea is Nick Lea and he manages to infuse each one of his character with something special.

Truce, by [livejournal.com profile] inlaterdays, because Krycek is Krycek and unforgettable and definitely ALIVE. One-armed or not ;)

[livejournal.com profile] xf_pornbattle, because...well, it's a pornbattle! I'm a Krycek fan more than an X-Files fan (although I do like the series), but there is never enough porn *nods*

Yuletide, in all its glory (no Harsh Realm this year, damn!) and New Year Resolutions 2009 challenge (info on linked page), because there are so many small fandoms deserving LOVE! And so many inspiring prompts still to be fullfilled :)

Screencaps of Jeffrey Dean Morgan from the Watchmen Myspace HQ feature by [livejournal.com profile] rhymeswithmagic, because I can't wait to see this film, I discovered the graphic novel only recently, just before JDM was involved in the project, and from what I've seen, the film promises to be amazing. And it's Jeff :)

A recap of Yuletide (old and new) Eastern Promises fiction by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon, because Eastern Promises is a great slash film and everyone should watch it and write Nikolai and Kirill fiction!

Comms for Eastern Promises fiction: [livejournal.com profile] easternpromises and [livejournal.com profile] epslash: go, read and enjoy :)

Write or Die, a funny tool to stimulate your writing.

Forbidden Fruit e-zine, original slash fiction magazine, very interesting, worth looking at and participating/submitting to!

[livejournal.com profile] tehsunny's Harsh Realm fiction, because she writes Mike Pinocchio so well - some is locked, but there is also HR fiction at [livejournal.com profile] hr_fic

[livejournal.com profile] thedailywriter, a new community dedicated to encourage daily writing. I still have to look into it properly but daily writing is a Good Thing!

AND! Three actors I like very much and always make me happy when I see them:

D.B. Sweeney (various pics HERE)
(and I will have to watch Leverage, since he guest-stars in an ep, and I still have to watch Miracle at S.Anna, dammit)
I just adore him. He works like crazy, has appeared in so many films and TV series it's scary (Jericho, House, Leverage more recently) and he's just sexy and adorable.*nods*

Damian Lewis
I'll admit it, I have only seen him in Life (whose second series I just inhaled during the past few days) and as Charlie Crews, he's great. Also, I have a soft spot for ginger hair (srtrawberry, red, all variations), so I plan on catching up with hsi other work. Some pics HERE. Do watch Life, btw. It's quirky and I quite like it.

Last but not least.

David Morse. What can I say? Familiar to House fans as House nemesis in series 3, he was in The Indian Runner with Viggo Mortensen (Ahhh, Frankie :) and in dozens other films, and some big ones too. He's as tall as Jared Padalecki, and does menacing so well, and I really enjoy watching him act. Some pics HERE.

...[personal profile] moth2fic pointed to this article

Worth reading anyway mostly for the gross inaccuracies and generalisations used to support her argument and the fact that the author is deleting opposing comments (fair enough, her blog, her decision, but it doesn't look that good, does it?).  The argument per se  is certainly worth discussing (I don't particularly agree with it, but I do not dismiss it completely), but the assumptions made about the premise are superficial and a mean to an end, definitely not the whole picture at all.

I wish I could discuss it at length, but just have no time. I'm sure others will do a better job of it anyway.
I did posted a comment, which I don't think will be allowed so I am reposting it here:

"...lolololol.

Couldn't help laughing.

If you were intending to be academic about the topic, then you're lacking in context, case studies, references, biblio, and so forth.

If instead you were just trying to be intentionally provocative and attract hits by using big words and easy 'good for effect' statements, good job.

Go ahead and delete (which only REALLY undermines any solidity to your arguments which could instead be the source of an interesting discussion, but there you go)"

A post that I completely agree with: by [personal profile] morgandawn on satire, HERE.
The point is not taking sides. The point is understanding where both sides come from and letting them deal with each other peacefully.
I have more thinky thoughts on yaoi on this, but life is too short, and I need to finish packing OMG.
