If I were to consider writing (no promises on the time of delivery, though) a long juicy multiverse hooker story:

1) who would you like to see as a hooker/s (specify character/s and fandom/s, thank you :)
2) who would you like to see in need of said hookers' services
3) should it be a redemption story?

And yes, I'm running a fever, why do you ask? *G*

Hee :)

[livejournal.com profile] candygramme wrote me a ficlet for the prompt:
first time Krycek meets an alien (Guerin) and decides not to kill it/him

It's HERE..Krycek meets Michael Guerin and mischief ensues, YAY!
Go read! :D

I'm gearing up to start writing Pros again (in a fannish and academic way both), so...here goes.

Give me one of my own stories, and a time stamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or in the past before it started, and I'll write at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

Then it was Christmas night. The pc was apparently holding (you should hear the sounds coming from the HD, like a donkey in love, I tell you), I was feeling weird (and only a few hours later realizing it was because I was soon going to be sick like a dog), and I discovered Yuletide Madness: writing extra treats for any request that intrigues/inspires you.
Oh, I loved it, and I will do it again next year!

I wrote:

2) Addams Traditions
Fandom: The Addams Family.

And I also wrote:

I would like to thank all commenters (and I will reply to their comments directly, I saved them all), they have all been very generous :)

And as I posted earlier, I got Yuletide Treats written for me!!!

Which, as I understand it, was something  of the last moment, simply pinch hitters were invited to put in requests for the Yuletide Madness, and well, I wasn't expecting any of my requests to be picked up  an instead I got two LIFE treats! Which I love (Charlie and Ted, c'mon,  in a slash world, they are so going to happen, but I just adore their friendship/quirky bonding anyway*G*), and am now going to see who wrote those :D

In other news, both mum and I are starting to feel slighty better, even if eating is still an issue, and it's fine for me, but mum is transparent as it is. Crossing fingers, though, we should slowly get better and better.
I will do a fanfiction recap of the year asap, too. For myself, mostly, to encourage me to write more and to consider what I wrote and how and why, and I'll do a practical list of things that I hope to accomplish this year, too. Eventually ;)

I think everyone should read the following story:
Tradition!, by [livejournal.com profile] bellatemple

Gen, Christmassy-themed (sort of), funny, more Sam and Dean than John, but John-friendly enough ;)
I just enjoyed reading it, so much.

~~~
There's also two Sam/Dean stories (and they are great stories, the slash notwithstanding; meaning, Sam/Dean slash doesn't do much for me, most of the time, but these two stories have plot, and characterization, and atmosphere, and all that you want in a story:) :
Moths on the Mirror, PART 1 and PART 2, by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter
This a breathtaking read. I couldn't stop once I started, and then re-read all the way through again.
and
Leader of the Pack, by astolat
Hellhounds. Sam and Dean should so have a pet, so why not a Hellhound?
Although, there's a lot more to this story than four-legged demonic canines :)
In other news, yes, I'm escaping my mood by reading SPN fiction. Works for me.
Also, a bit late, but THIS, all these postcards? They look good on that wall. *G*
All stories GEN, no pairing, no warnings. All with some (imo) significant John-presence.
[livejournal.com profile] minkmix consistently (and I mean that, I've been reading her stories for more than a year now, and the quality and rhythm and regularity of her writing amazes me) writes great SPN stories, with a sure voice for the Winchesters and a sharp eye for the little things of every day life, even if it's a life on the road.
Selectee, by [livejournal.com profile] minkmix
Dean listening to John rambling in the car. I love Dean's pov of his father, here, and his own teenage attitude - wisely kept to himself...truly enjoyable read.
"Dean never quite knew what to do when his father directly sought out an opinion. It was much like overhearing the very elderly allude to an active sex life or seeing a badly drawn tattoo on a really pretty girl. It was about as troubling as it was intriguing."
Following on the theme of a teenage Dean somehow dealing with/or around John and very much aware of his father's presence in his life in even the most amazing circumstances, the following story is funny, clever and a lovely read.
Monsters and Movie Sets, written by [livejournal.com profile] cole_chan
"It turned out that this craptastic town wasn’t just one of Dad’s random stops to earn money before returning to the road. No, Dad had found a surprisingly nice house with an amazingly good rental price and a job in garage that gave him just the right number of hours so he could work and hunt all in one perfect package. Sam was especially happy because it looked like he would start and finish the year in the same school. It was good to see Sam happy, because at the age of thirteen he was starting to show some worrying teenage behavior.
Dean wondered if his Dad would let them stay in town once he found out about this little supernatural escapade.
"
The last story has a different tone, more bittersweet:
Things We Pass On, by [livejournal.com profile] relli86
It's a look at what parents pass onto their children, not always consciously, starting from John and Mary's own parents. Six things, each one very important. I like the structure of this very much, the way it moves in time and from character to character.
phantomas: (Default)
NOTE TO SELF: resist the temptation to leave scathing remarks on fanfic where John is simply the Bad Guy Against Whom WoobieDean will Defend Lil'Sammy Forever and Ever...leaving a comment that says Character Rape is not productive/constructive...*headdesks*
More seriously, is not about writing John as the perfect Dad, because we know he wasn't...but to eliminate and simplify his role inot GENERIC EVIL BAD GUY is a sign of poor writing, restricted view and lack of respect for the virtual feelings of the boys themselves, because, dammit, Dean and Sam love their father, and not in a Stockolm Syndrome way.
Note to writers of weechesters fic: you need a bad guy to torment the little boys? Have John leave them with someone/disappear for a few days. Don't turn him into someone he wasn't, it just ruins your fiction for anyone that is not looking to go AWWWW over any Dickensian depictions of mistreated kids. Writing well and subtly also means that demonizing the counterpart to your good guys (obviously the focus of your story and your intended emotional punch) is a poor tool that doesn't really work apart from the very superficial level.
Be daring. Go deeper. Be more imaginative, and at the same time, USE canon. Don't ignore it. (Unless you want to go AU, of course). You'll have a stronger, better written, more effective story at the end. Ogres should stay in the Marshes, or La-la-land (no offence to Shrek meant, love the big green guy ;)
Briefly:
yes, your good guys will shine against a bad guy, BUT, if you miscast the bad guy as someone that is CANONICALLY NOT a bad guy...it becomes character rape so easily. You'd be better off without.
69. In the Heart of the Outback…
The image of Byrne Drummond has burned in Fiona's mind ever since she first saw him in Gundawarra. A stoic, broad-shouldered cattleman stricken by the wreckage her brother had wrought….
Byrne has every reason to hate Fiona McLaren. Her reckless brother destroyed his family. But Fiona's touch is the first to stir him in years. He wants to stay away, but she draws him like a moth to a flame…who will get burned?
Okay, 90 % chances of a change of the 'she' to a 'he', of course (and please do note the clever choice of prompt number *G*)...now, SPN, okay, the rules say at least one SPN character...I need to think about it! eeeek! FUN! :D
So, a little while ago I posted my story if there was a compass, if you were a star for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_scifi first challenge, practically setting the Winchesters in space. Since [livejournal.com profile] disanddat is that wonderful, clever, writerly John-girl that she is, she wrote a collateral story for it! *dances*
It's called Dividend, by [livejournal.com profile] disanddat and it's posted HERE, explaining what exactly John does to earn all those credits that Dean will never ask about. I love it.
No sex involved, for the gutterminded amongst you! ;)
although, if we keep adding bits to this Win-space 'verse, it'll probably happen *G*
Arcadia, by [livejournal.com profile] sangga
Previous installments - all self-standing: Omega (prologue), Abaddon, and Arcana. It's not strictly necessary to read these before reading Arcadia, imo, but if you haven't, do read them.
It's the story of Sam, in a way (and that sounds weird, and it could/shoud be Sam's story, but it came that way and I like it). Told in bits and pieces and fragments and emotions and people. An amazingly tight pov. A great read. Quite painful at times, but never gratuitously so.
I'm so happy this was posted :) It creates an atmosphere around that stays for long. Not to miss.
phantomas: (CJ Nexus - nexus 2)
One thing that has been giving me much joy and entertainment since Christmas: [livejournal.com profile] nexus_verse.
The [livejournal.com profile] nexus_verse is [livejournal.com profile] disanddat's baby: an idea she got time ago (November? December?) as she explains in the first entry of the comm, I think. And no, I haven't checked, but I know it's there, somewhere.
It's a sci-fi 'verse, where several of [livejournal.com profile] disanddat's favourite characters find themselves: they are not exactly the same, of course. There is much mistery about the Nexus and why characters wake up there: the Winchesters, Mulder and Krycek, Guerin and Max from Roswell, Hobbes and Pinocchio from Harsh Realm, Victor from Once a Thief. [livejournal.com profile] disanddat has been writing in the main time-line, and I jumped in and added bits and pieces, transferring in the Nexus a character I wrote first in RP (again, somewhat different), and possibly one more later on.
It's a type of collaborative writing, I suppose, but not RP. More like a shared 'verse, where one writer, [livejournal.com profile] disanddat, has shaped the main relationships, and then we pick at the details and brainstorm together.
The writing is building up slowly scene after scene as the characters start to interact with each other, as they try to understand where they are, why they are there, as a group dynamic starts shaping up...I love the [livejournal.com profile] nexus_verse, I have bits and pieces that need finishing, but the main slant is all [livejournal.com profile] disanddat's writing.
We're slash-inclined, of course, so there is slash happening...but we're also narrative/plot-inclined - so there isn't just smut. [livejournal.com profile] lorelei633 and [livejournal.com profile] candygramme have been reading along, and hopefully will contribute pieces of their own.
Anyway. I just wanted to point at the[livejournal.com profile] nexus_verse in all its shiny-ness, and invite you to come and read, let us know if you like. If you have the time/inclination.
We're having fun with it :D
I forgot...there are Tentacles. Quite a lot of them. *nods* And there will be more in the future. *nods again*
I have thyroid problems (in between other issues) so I don't have the best control over my mood swings..however, this entry on the merits of profic- vs. fanfic
http://kradical.livejournal.com/868712.html
has me simply seething with anger. I am now regretting ordering the book, and I am now accusing and recognizing myself as a hypocrite because at the end of it I'll buy it and read it anyway, but truly? I'm seething.
Fire from my nostrils kind of rage.
ETA: I don't usually invoke swear-words and/or bad words in my daily RL or net language...but I am having wild mood swings, and I know it, so I came back to this entry tempted to edit out the BS word in the subject entry. But, honest to myself, I'll leave it there.Though I should point out, kradical is being quite graceful/diplomatic in dealing with it all.
I've worked through my (partly meds-induced anger) and reached the disappointment stage. Disappointment because I don't see tie-ins as intrinsically different from fanfiction, at the end of it all. They have somewhat different rules and obligations to observe, and it's the choice of the author whether to submit her work to the publishing market or the fanfiction audience. The fact that the tie-in is authorised does not make it different from a gen, plot-based fanfic.
I personally know several fanfiction writers that I'd be severely surprised were they not be published if they chose to go that way.
I suppose today is not a good day? There must be issues at work here that are more closely personal. But as a fan, I can't help but disagree with arguments that delineate difference in terms of economic success and 'alleged' quality control...
Oh well.
In other news, I found Rama II (Arthur C. Clarke and Gentry Lee) in a second hand bookstore, and also finally got The Fall of the Kings (Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman).
ETA the 2nd: I suppose I should stay away from fandom meta (not the community, the generic activity)(and generic fandom, too) for a while. It sounds good to stay away.
Day two of The Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge
FIRST OFFERING
From the Media Cannibals, originally made in 1997 ca. and remastered by [livejournal.com profile] justacat in 2006, a songvid: Detachable Penis.
The song is from King Missile (you'll find the lyrics in the page linked) and this is a songvid that any slash fan can enjoy, whether they are Pros fans or not. It's such a great union between (ironic) lyrics and images, the perfect choice of clips, and a clever and intelligent meta-commentary in so many ways, about the Fallus, and what people (men) do with it, how fans play with it.
It's a milestone in vidding, imo, and in Pros vidding. Enjoy :D
SECOND OFFERING
Another double drabble, another genre. *cough*
