I should be in bed, but...Viggo! Sweets! Viggo! Russian! Coca Cola! *ggg*
I like to live dangerously. Not. ;)

So, [livejournal.com profile] this_is_my_name painted a beautiful 8-metres long forest. Lots of trees!!!
You can't see it because it's locked. BUT, I asked and she graciously gave me permission to make icons from her art!

ETA: You can see some of [livejournal.com profile] this_is_my_name's art HERE

GIP! Lookie!

*pets lovely trees-art*

It's a pity of course that the icons, being so small, really don't make justice to the shapes and colours of the original. But I love it/them :)

Because [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary pointed out Jensen Ackles' comment about Dean losing John as seeing it as the loss of his captain...

Base, if you want to play around with it:

Until I have the time to find a layout I really like (one with lots of boxes in the side bars! and a sidebar where I can put icons I like and links and and and my tags and quotes and STUFF!!!) and whose colors I can play around with and the time to make myself a header etc etc.
Most of those I've seen play around with colors but that's not what I'm looking for, I want a customisable one (is that the right word or did I made it up?).

Any pointers in the direction of a sidebar/sidebar layout/template with all that and v. little coding will be VERY welcome!

And thank you again to the generous LJ Fairy that has given me the gift certificate/s :)

Who knows, I may even *GASPS* use MORE than one ICON!

But seriously, since I'm on the topic...I feel, always felt as if my icon is my identity, my personality. I love seeing all the different icons around, and I have come to recognise some people simply by the style of the icons they use, or just automatically memorizing their icons or layouts...but for me, whereas the layout/headers can change, like clothing, my icon is...my identity. Integral part of my on-line personality. Silly, possibly, I know, but it really feels like that to me.
So, these lots of icons thing...I'll have to see about that *G* or make myself enough icons tht I am comfortable with (and use finally some of those made for me by the lovely and very talented [livejournal.com profile] foxestacado :D )

In other news..it's Thursday! *G*

A long time coming, as always not what I was working towards, got another one in the working, but as it is...I hope it has the stark flavour I was going for, the bark of a tree, a family tree, and the stalking shadowyness of a cat ...
(I think I made up 'shadowyness' *g*)

"MORDAC, Lord of Fury"
Cover art for One Father's Sons by [livejournal.com profile] stele3, and matching icon.

Notes:
- the original flowery brushes are by [livejournal.com profile] ewanism, I cropped and resized and played around with them.
- the cat image was googled, can't honestly remember where I found it, I only remember I was in Rome at the time

I'm frustrated by having to work with a pc that doesn't have Photoshop, the fonts, brushes and capabilities of my own pc/software, but making graphics is the only thing that silences all my worries and frustration.

Sincerest apologies to those that are waiting for tags/comments/emails from me, but colors and shapes invoke silence and mood and instinct, whereas words and sentence structure require more from me that I can afford right now.

I made an icon and a couple of manipolations for The Amazing Incredible Adventures of Freak Boy and Dyke Girl  by [livejournal.com profile] stele3 - which is a WiP, but well worth the read and the wait, imo.

This is my way of showing my appreciation and sending more readers [livejournal.com profile] stele3' way.
As always, comments, likes and dislikes are welcome.

I was/am doing a Project Krycek, ie. iconing all Krycek's X-Files episodes...but I sort of strayed so, uhm...yes.
That's still in my List Things To Do, but somewhat delayed.

I bring instead you a number of Krycek icons I made in the past three years (a few of Nick and a few from Nick's other roles too).
All of these were made for [livejournal.com profile] disanddat, so she got first choice.
There will be inconsistency of style and experimentation :)

I suppose this is called Icon Dumping *G*

In a few cases, I've used brushes that weren't mine, but in all honesty I don't have the original files
anymore and thus can't credit the brushes author - if you recognise the brush, please let me know so I can credit.

And, posted short fiction to [livejournal.com profile] papawinchester (entry is locked to comm members):
title: Demon Interlude
author: [livejournal.com profile] phantomas
rating: NC17
warnings: slash, non con (possibly, probably, who knows)
pairing: Demon(Possessed!John)/Dean
summary: a missing scene from Devil's Trap, where the Demon finds a more cruel way to taunt and mock Dean, using his relationship with John as a leverage and twisting it in the worst possible way.
comments: positive and negative, all welcome.
and because I'm such a *insert insult of choice* I posted late at night and forgot to acknowledge the great beta/editing by [livejournal.com profile] digital_opium and [livejournal.com profile] disanddat. *headdesks* any mistake is mine.

John has made many difficult choices, hasn't he?
The pic is from Sliders, courtesy of jdmDOTnet - it actually only looks good on white background..ops. No time now to go back and clean it and alias it properly. Damn.

Still massively busy :(

Also, GIP *points at icon* my fourth personal LJ icon in three years, and yep, still with the Do You? theme *nodnod* Also a public declaration of my Supernatural obsession (extending to and including the Winchester Boys, of course, but Papa John comes first).
Also opened a comm.[livejournal.com profile] papawinchester I did say obsession. Erm.

Still managed to finish grabbing Project Krycek ep. 04 and 05. Icons forthcoming when RL work is done. *kicks it*
phantomas: (Default)
*wondering if that is a verb...which I think it's not, but it's shorter than 'making icons' and as we all know language is ever-evolving..*

A few thoughts on making icons in relation to a specific project, as opposed to making icons because a particular actor/pic/character/pup suits your fancy, or you want to make a pretty pressie for a friend.

I just started to make icons of Krycek's episodes in the X Files, and I was faced with several questions. How do you look at your source for the icons? From which point of view? I do my own grabbing, which means that I need to establish a direct relationship with my source straight away, and there is no other filter than my self (my eyes, the visual part of my brain) between me and my source and my final product.

How do I look at my source? Do I look at the episode in terms of plot line and narrative? Taking as premise that Krycek is my focus, I will of course skip the scenes in which he is not present. Okay, that saves me some work. So, to hell with the episode's narrative, right? Just the character. What then? What comes after? Of course, several grabs of each nuance and shade of facial expressions...uhm, okay. What else? Hands. Legs. Posture. The body in the environment. The shape silouhetted against dark/light backgrounds, as long as the outline is recognisably Krycek-esque...the X Files tends to have dark settings in terms of photography, as the subject matter requires.

Do I look at it as if I am taking pictures of beautiful moments in the source, and then work from there? Or do I try to focus more on my subject and extrapolate those fleeting expressions, those two-frames moments? Or do I do both?

I confronted my first episode of grabbing and iconing without previous experience (of similar projects, I've make icons before), and now I am looking forward to face my second episode, and those questions I have written above and see how I deal with them.

This is my first post for Project Krycek.
[grabbing and iconing all of the Krycek eps in the X Files, following the illustrious example of [livejournal.com profile] foxestacado's All Seasons X Files Iconage]

Things I have learned:
1) grab judiciously
2) decide on color scheme before-hand
3) make up your mind on variations
4) grab judiciously

I arranged the icons in chronological order as they appear in the episode; when there are more versions of the same icon, I add a letter: 1a, 1b, and so on.

- Feel free to take
- Credit is nice
- If you'd like to add your own text to the textless icons, go ahead, I'd love to see what you make with them :)
- No hotlinking, of course.

Comments, suggestions, questions, criticism, all is welcome :)
It's quite clear, I think, that I have worked on this batch in three phases: you only need to look at the color scheme :)

69 icons plus 18 (textless and/or bases used)

In what sounds like a very very pompous way of saying this, I am going to committ myself (publically, so I can't escape from it, otherwise, knowing myself, a thousands other things would intrude) to Project Krycek* and Project Harsh Realm. Both implies grabbing and icon-making, of the Krycek's X Files episodes in chronological order and of the Harsh Realm episodes respectively.

Erm.
See? Now I have to. :)
If you know of communities or LJusers that would be interested, let me know. The point of making, for me, is sharing and learning (from my own mistakes and from crit).

I'm following [livejournal.com profile] foxestacado X Files Massive All-Seasons Iconage with great anticipation and visual pleasure at each new installment, mixed with awe for the sheer enormity of her project and admiration for her perseverance.

These are for the Miracle Man, Samuel, appearing in ep. 17, season 1, of the X Files. I always liked this character, I always liked the idea of him being out there, keeping on healing people, but also hiding. I liked his true belief, and his desperation in being abandoned - so it seemed for a while - by God.

I'm experimenting with various things. Advice/comment welcome :)

Supernatura (ep. 14) l
"As long as I'm around, nothin' bad is gonna happen to you."

Ahhhhh. I love a good soldier. All weapons laid out, ready to be methodically clean.
I also like a good liar, and o' boy if Dean lied through his teeth to his brother.
Also, like a good soldier, he worries on his own, joking away the dangers and the fears.

SN is shaping up nicely, in the ever-working dynamic of a (buddy) couple (friendship/brothership/malebonding and for us pervs, the ultimate kinky wrongness of the 'cest) -- two archetypes, both heroes, one pragmatic and grounded, the other more sensitive and with special powers...there was a long discussion, a long time ago, in The Professionals fandom, about literary archetypes vs. Jung's archetypes vs. mythological archetypes, etc etc. I bet our Winchester bros. fall into one of those nicely and snug.

SN has a terrific photography, btw.
I love their choices on light (not much of it, as the horror subject requires) and the blue-ish color-dominant in the filter coloring.

Icon: SN, Dean

Yes, I'm partial :) Feel free to take if you like.

Eventually (hopefully soon - looks at brain tangled with learning NVU, free wonderful software to make web pages...the software is great, and FREE, did I mention FREE? but the brain is DAMN old) I will have a place to host all the icons I've made. Well, the decent ones anyway.

Made this for [livejournal.com profile] kita0610 today:

Image hosting by Photobucket

No brushes involved, grab found on the web (can't remember where, apologies and thanks to the grabber!). Moved the Winchester closer to one another, added a a light-blue background that you only see behind Dean's phone, cropped to my satisfaction, sharpened twice but blurred their cheeks and necks. Copied it on a 100x100 black background, added the text as per [livejournal.com profile] kita0610's request. Used 'boycott', 5 pt, smooth aliasing for 'brother' (from Dafont), and 'Abadi MT Condensed', 5 pt, strong aliasing. It'd be cool if there was a fading effect on 'it's the new cousin' text, but have no time now to try it.

I felt the need to point out publically - coram populo, as the Latin said - that after two years and a half (one month more or less) on LJ, I finally have a second icon to use now and then *points at said icon*

I like to keep the 'Do you?' theme going. It's a challenge. I like the idea of an action frozen in time and a choice to consider.

I owe many emails, tags, etc. I needed sometime to regroup.
