We could be heroes, by [livejournal.com profile] missyjack

I read it yesterday, and I'm still quite in awe. It's maybe not fiction in the usual sense of the word, it's intertextual, meta-fiction, and it's funny and a little heartbreaking and epic with it. I suppose it's probably as much about us fans and what we do with stories than it is about the Winchester boys, it mixes canon, fanon, and popular culture...it's worth reading, because it's in a niche of its own, and oh yes, I loved it. :)

John Winchester is Luke Skywalker’s real father.

Two Sam and Dean stories I truly enjoyed reading last night.

Fall Until You Hit Bottom, by [livejournal.com profile] geminigrl11
( PG, Dean & Sam)
An intense scene between Sam and Dean, just before Dean's one year deal is expiring.  This was very raw and not pulling punches.

Like a wheel, by [livejournal.com profile] ms_jvh_shuh
(Gen, Sam, Dean, the Impala)
What happens after Dean's deal comes to fruition, so to speak? What does Sam do?
I LOVE this answer/idea. The image of it. It reminded me of Dean's "I'll march into Hell myself" at the end of S1. And a tiny but great mention of John, too.

This cheered me up some:

Sam & Dean meet Crowley and Aziraphale from Good Omens, short and funny.

I thought the f-list was strangely quiet, but with the holidays incoming, although it was a bit early..and then I discovered THIS:

You people. I'm so proud of you all *G*

(so, I was tricked into socializing today, which means I haven't done anything this afternoon/evening *growls* anyway...)

[livejournal.com profile] disanddat has opened a site for fiction about JDM's minor characters, HERE.
In case you've missed me squeeing about it ;)

And then she goes and writes El Sid fiction.

First het, HERE and now SLASH, HERE..

And trust me, it's damn hot slash.
It short-circuited my brain. For real.
(okay, so we have a minor fixation with JDM in his various incarnations and Jason Behr - Max from Roswell - but, hey, no one is perfect!)

In Nomine Patris by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter, part 1 and part 2

12.000 plus words of Dean's twisted love for John and his need of approval, 12.000 plus words of Bobby being there and seeing it all.
12.000 plus quite glorious words, imo.

A great John - larger than life, as he is, and not there so much as there, always - a Sam that's Sam, strong and different - an interaction with canon that makes this story coexist with it perfectly.

There's some Dean/Bobby, a warning for the squeamish, but it's much more important and story relevant that a simple / between two names. It's relationships, and how fucked up they are, can be, will be if you let them.

He doesn’t like admitting it but it makes a cruel kind of sense to Bobby too: if you’ve got two Winchesters, you need one of ‘em to be Dean or you’ve got a fight on your hands

It's a story worth reading, whatever your preferences in the fandom.
phantomas: (Default)
I see John Winchester in a certain way, not many in the fandom see him the same way - fair enough, I do understand that the focus is the brothers, not the father, and that skews perspective and reception of characters in different ways...but there are a few/some of us die-hard John girls that think he was a decent father, all considered, one that really cared for his sons foremost and first...which doesn't mean he was perfect, but still.

It's nice to stumble into a fic/writer, now and then, that sees John in that same way :D

Gen fiction.
John and Dean meet another kind of evil during a hunt. Zillah has a vivid touch with her writing, brushing on family, and evil, and canon. Enjoy.

Arcadia, by [livejournal.com profile] sangga

Previous installments - all self-standing: Omega (prologue), Abaddon, and Arcana. It's not strictly necessary to read these before reading Arcadia, imo, but if you haven't, do read them.

It's the story of Sam, in a way (and that sounds weird, and it could/shoud be Sam's story, but it came that way and I like it). Told in bits and pieces and fragments and emotions and people. An amazingly tight pov. A great read. Quite painful at times, but never gratuitously so.
I'm so happy this was posted :) It creates an atmosphere around that stays for long. Not to miss.

Sustenance, by [livejournal.com profile] iamstealthyone

I have a thing for food. You know, survival and all ;)
But really, I have a thing for food, not in that 'I'n a connoisseur' way, at all, but in that 'oh look! It looks gorgeous!' and 'wow, can I have more' and the colors and the quantity of it - like, a slice of cake should be a proper slice of cake, not a thin, frail, transparent pitiful thing, especially when you pay a lot for it *looks at the local Starbuck*....sooooo, Winchesters and food? Possibly a kink, and not in the sexual way, more of an interest. As in, how did John deal with feeding his boys? How about a stubborn Sammy closing his mouth to his veggies? Dean coming up with burgers for breakfast - like most kids would, and so on?

A long introduction to say that I liked the story above, and its peeking into Winchesters and food, moving from a light tone to a more serious one. Mary, John, Sam, Jess, and Dean. Enjoy.

ETA: and yes, avoiding the f-list until I've watched the latest SPN episode.

Honestly, I think I stumbled upon this fic by way of [livejournal.com profile] hossgal reccing something, but at this moment in time, mymeory is totally fuzzy. Sorry about that.

Anyway...

Dazzleland, by [livejournal.com profile] big_pink
There are ten chapters of this, it's GEN and it's complete.

It goes back and forth in time, the present (set in canon, in between episodes of the second series) and the spring Sam decided he was leaving John and Dean and going to Stanford. This story has it all: plot, case (in the past AND in the present, and it's a different case), character development, emotional entanglements, loss and mourning, a great John (imo), subtly written, one of the best Teen!Sam voices I've read - and I have problems with Sam, so coming from me, that's meant as great praise indeed, because I LIKED this Teen! Sammy, a lot. Dean is nothing short of spectacular.

This story has it all, imo. If you haven't read it already, don't miss it. It'll grab you, and if it doesn't, come back and kick me ;)

John Winchester. Naked. Beautiful writing. There is not even sex! Who needs it! Go read. Make me happy.

Heart of a Wolf, by [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion

part one
part two
part three

I truly enjoyed reading this story: it's true SPN, there's a hunt, there's supernatural things happening, there's darkness, there's Dean, there's John (a great John), there's Bobby (a great Bobby), Sam has just recently left for Stanford, there's broken Winchesters, there's canon thrown in and deftly sprinkled with all the rest.
Hope you enjoy it as I did.

Spider Bites On All Your Lovers, by [livejournal.com profile] untrue_accounts
Het, NC-17, Dean/Crossroads Demon
HERE

This...this is being inside a demon's head, and being hungry, and eating bits of Dean's soul, morsel by juicy morsel. A true NC-17, meaning that's not
just the acts being graphically described, but what goes with them. Inside. Where we don't want to look, where we can't bear to look.
As I wrote in my comment to the story, I don't think I've seen Dean this 'naked' in a story yet.
Yes, I totally loved it, hence the enthusiasm. Hope you'll like it too.

Like the Blues He Drives by [livejournal.com profile] coffee_in_bed

two paragraphs, people, just two paragraphs, and SO much John & Dean angst (via Ellen) that...I've been thinking about it all day. Good thoughts. Angsty angsty thoughts. Technically Dean/Ellen, but, oh Winchesters *sighs happily*

And yes, I'm in Rome. Ah, la Citta' Eterna...
phantomas: (Default)
It's the Winchester men, all three of them, the ways in which they are tied to each other, connected, the power they have on one another, the entangled emotions they feel...a very powerful songvid. I'm particularly receptive to the bond between John and Dean, and I see it here depicted very strongly, from childhood to adulthood to and beyond death...but it's also Sam's songvid.
Go watch :)

Doing the all 'avoiding F-list in case of blatant SPN spoilers' thing today (until the ep is done DLing that is), but in the meantime...

Thought of the day...
The Devil may well be wearing Prada,
but the YED is wearing John Winchester...

Six Ways the Demon Won, by [livejournal.com profile] _audrey and [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary
It's clever and funny and heartbreaking, all in one. What images and text combined can do :)

-----------

Off to a tangent...I like House. I do. I've been a Hugh Laurie fan since Blackadder, through Jeeves and Wooster and even that Little mouse thing. But I can barely bear watching it, because medicine? Doesn't work like that. They don't get to save the patient miracoulosly at the last moment every single fucking time. Yes, it's just a TV show, and it's no one's fault, really, and it's me being hyper sensitive to the issue, but when you have a dear one seriously ill, damn...watching House tears you apart, because medicine is not miracolous like that, and because they only cure what can already be cured.

Talking about cognitive dissonance and jarring of disbelief...

Third Watch is another TV series much beloved by yours truly (who, btw, this afternoon witnessed a motorbike accident and promptly put herself in the middle of the road waving and bouncing like a mad 5' woman in order to slow down the traffic, because minced motorbiker's meat isn't that appetizing, trust me), so I was very happy to find this crossover with Supernatural, pairing up two of my favourite characters*: Dean and Maurice "Bosco" Boscorelli :D

In particular, Episode Twenty is an episode that all Plastic!John Winchesters fans will surely enjoy *g* It's not John's only appearance in the Plastic Theatre, but it's one I particularly appreciate and find very amusing.
