quick update: RIP Shelley

Some of you knew her as icekestrel, on LJ, some of you as Shelley in RL.

She was a fan, a Pros fan, a slash fan, a writer, an overall genuine, motivated, resourceful young woman with a liking for tea, a belief in alternative spiritualities and other worlds, and cherished her partner Leah.

Sadly, Shelley passed away a week before Christmas in a car accident. (and No, I still can't believe it).

This coming Thursday there'll be a ceremony to remember her, and I'll be there. Whether you knew her or not, I hope you can send a vibe, a prayer, a thought in that direction, to remember this lovely woman and support her partner in her time of grief.

Hugs to all, and to this vast, extended, strange family that's fandom.

Supernatural season 8: eps 1 to 4 catch up

What the headline says! :)

I don't how many of you are still following SPN.  I sure hope some still are :)
Interestingly enough, SPN is the first ever TV series I follow from the beginning in Real Time.

When I first entered fandom, I was into Highlander:The TV series, but there were no downloads at the time, so my only way of following it in Real Time was to rely on the Big List after Episode Discussions and the tapes kind fans were sending me. To this day, there are still episodes I haven't seen (working to remedy that, though).

After that, I went back into The Professionals. I say 'went back' because I watched the series on TV in Italy when it first aired, and that was...uhm, 17/18 years previously. 57 precious episodes which I danced for when I saw them (on tape!) in a HMV shop in Manchester during the Highlander convention Chronicles 1997.

After that - and for the record, the series I love I keep loving, until now I've never gone completely off a series, the passion just leaves but there's always fire under the ashes, so to speak - after that...it was multifandom for a while: LotR and lots of other series, Harsh Realm, Krycek... (see my info page for the full list), many found following actors and actresses I liked.

And of course, there was roleplay writing in Theatrical Muse (once again, an amazing experience, and some true friends found).

But Real Time series? None, not really. I've watched many episodes of many series (still have to watch True Blood, though), but none from the beginning throughout not missing a single episode, and not getting as involved in the fandom.

Supernatural was the first one, and yes, I'm still watching it after 8 years. Wow :D

Reactions?

I quite loved it. I feel a clear return to season one dynamics between the brothers. The photography has peaks of amazingness, loved Dean's desaturated Purgatory back story (and that whole backstory? I hope someone is writing around it, cause there's so much scope for fun and exploration there!).
Sam is Sam. He never wanted to be a hunter, and I quite approve of this trait of his character not changing. It may well be a case of denial, but still. I like it.
Dean is always my favourite between them, but one without the other doesn't work :D (and no, I never slashed them, although I have enjoyed many stories that did).

The flashbacks are interesting. I think they are more for us, the audience, than anything else. I liked the silences between the brothers, as difficult as they were, and those are still there, only now we know what's in their minds when they're silent.
Narratively speaking, the series switched from a tighter pov to a close one.
Does it work?
In ways, but it does disrupt the narrative a bit, for me. I understand, of course, that it's another way to give the boys some days off from their filming schedule.

I fear for Dean's bond with the guy from Purgatory (can't remember his name, right now). I like it, and I don't want it to go.

And yes, I still cheer for John Winchester and what he's done for his boys :P

Looking forward to the more new SPN episodes!

In other news, I'm learning to become a Relational Dynamic coach (will specialize in coaching writers), looking after my father, and not yet finishing my novel. Bad, bad me!

How are you people? I want to see are Nick Lea's eps in Once Upon A Time, I hope it's a good role, and a lasting one.

Hugs!

Watching LoTR makes me happy :)

Happy birthday

my very first fandom true-friend all of ten years ago..and a couple more..., my copine, whom I should talk to more again, who is the sweetest, kindest woman ever, who loved Richie like I did, the first ever I co-wrote with, whom opened her house to lil' foreign me :) All my love, dear.

ION...
I didn't do any of the things I had to do today :(

Will try again tomorrow. Sorry for the lack of replies.

Tonight, I am knitting and watching LotR, because Hobbits and Aragorn and Boromir and Orcs and Elves and Gandalf and HOBBITS!

Oh, I so wish I could have a Hobbit house (it is sort of my size, anyway, lol).

*hugs you all*

Tomorrow...

just a short list of Things To Do:

- Very Important phone call

- important emails (two)

- clean/empty/reply inbox (365! *headdesks&facepalms*)

- hair?

- list of CFP deadlines

Totally useless and irrelevant entry brought to you by sleepiness and being exceedingly tired/bored of lost-in-limbo self

Things To Do

TOMORROW

..under the illusion that writing them down here will magically make me do them:

- at 9 am: decide whether to go or not to get hair done and phone in (see where I am? even that is a hard decision! Damn!)

- email/phone accountant guy in Italy (important, I have taxes to pay!)

- phone health centre to get doc appointment

- rest of day: tidy up clothing and desk

4 things. I can do 4 things, can't I? *

Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps, baby steps, baby steps...

* if only I could force my brain into not being so crowded with options, issues, fears (mum's in hospital), wishes for something that is NOT going to happen, not for now anyway, longing...stupid brain. Stupid, stupid brain. Really.

While waiting for Dollhouse to DL....

..I had a quick flist check and wanted to say HAPPY VALENTINE TO YOU ALL:
single, double, thriple (you never know;), fourlegged, virtual, twinned, agendered, whatever! LOVE to YOU ALL out there.
I never liked S.Valentine because it arrived only relatively recently in Italy and it smacks of commercial intent, but telling people you love them, friends, family and so forth, it's always worth it. You can never be sure when it may be too late :(

[livejournal.com profile] smilla02, thank youuuuu :DDD

And, I got a secret message in the [livejournal.com profile] sons_of_gondor Valentine's Day LotRPF Event! \ O / THANK YOU!

There are MANY of you that brighten my days, always, either with fun cracking entries, or by sharing your life, with advice, support, information, news...maybe what we have is in a part a community of strangers, many of us will never meet in RL, but you have always been here, as real as it can get. And for that I am grateful :D

Househunting continues...and somehow, it seems to me that HCL is the best Valentine film ever! I must be twisted, LOL

random and general update

Watched Fearless (2004, with Jet Li). Fun martial arts based on facts film.

Took male half of parental unit to Diabetes doctor. Took in info/guidelines/etc. Regurgitated the same to older brother and mother.

Talked with mother's doctor on phone. Uhm.

Played and look after cat (Zorro), who is getting used to life without Mimmi.

Spent time with mother reminiscing about war times, old songs and her trips with her father on the horse cart, when she was a child.

Perused houses on sale (on websites).

Getting geared up to go back to the UK. Browsing Flist :)

Realised that I will be able to see the new Supernatural ep on Friday and had a little shiver of pleasure...\o/

I wanna writeeeee!

Poinless much? lol :D

Rome update

It's alive! It speaks! It's in Rome!
Sunny and cold, but nice to be with family. Will try and make the best of it.

I Wish happiness to those of you celebrating, and equal happiness to those of you not celebrating: *BIG HUGS*

I'm taking decisions re: how to cope with Life demands and Uni demands, and I am utterly grateful to all of you for your support and advice, more than I can express here.

*******

Fandom-wise...why isn't anyone talking about Charlie Crews (sp?) and LIFE? Second series is just as good as the first one! Okay, it's not highly dramatic/suspenseful/angsty, but it's witty and charming and female character is great! Do watch. I will catch up on the most recent six eps asap amd will demand chat about it afterwards!

*******

Even more important...

This site is organizing donations to a dog charity for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's next birthday, with Jeff's Mum's knowledge and collaboration:
The Great Jeffrey Dean Birthday Project!!!

Banner and icon credit of Donate JDM dot org, feel free to use to promote the donation site :)

Yes, yes, I know, everyone and their dogs are doing something like this, for this or that celebrity, but hey, it's Jeff. He rescued Bisou, and he's keen on helping this charity dedicated to stray dogs (also old ones or ill ones that no one wants) and he's got fans too! Would be nice to show support. I will pimp this regularly, there is lots of time before April :D

Meme and Stuff

Meme from [livejournal.com profile] alixtii
. ..FOUR Winchester brothers? That could be interesting *g*
Twelve Days of Christmas Thingy...fannish enough to be amusing, methinks )

In other News, I am right now seriously considering giving up on my PhD. I just...Life has moved one and I want different things now, and it all just feels like a huge chainball at my ankle...I'm looking to calm down right now (some paperwork went wrong/was too late, which is why this entry, but the mood and thoughts have been here for a while), and will consider all possibilities. I'd like to accomplish this, it is within my abilities, but it requires a degree of concentration and dedication that...I have not been able to give it. Hence, it turns stressful and becomes a duty instead of a chosen achievement. Mum's cancer and my own MS don't help, no, and I am not - contrary to my own beliefs - Superwoman and can't just take it all in my stride. Silly me, I want a home and be healthy and possibly a baby, right now. Thesis just comes after. Life is too damn short and I have wasted some of it.

I really don't know.

Stuff

Sooo. Yesterday was quite a fun day. In between routine things, I went to Jarrolds and met Steven Fry!!!
He was signing the new book, and all his other books, and he was utterly charming and well mannered and TALL! Well, he was sitting as he was signing, of course, but I was close to the end of the queue, so I was around when he finally stood up. He has a firm handshake, a warm hand and a biig big one :) I like him *nods*

Later, while I was going on errands, I bumped into Martin Shaw. Literally, I was coming out of a shop and there were so many people, so I avoided a woman with kid and bumped into Martin. Exchanged a perfunctorily polite 'sorry' and walked on and then did a U turn, lol. He was clean shaven, wearing glasses, carrying some big gift-wrapped parcel in a plastic bag,and with his new lady. They went to Gap. Then to the car park. And at that point I could have tried to stop him and say something (about Apparitions, for example), there was no one around, so no risk of attracting too much attention to him (though there were a few excited doubletakes now and then) but at the end of the day, he was going on about his business and it didn't feel right. Besides, it's not the first time I see him, since I came to live here, so there might be other, better occasions. He was talking all posh, lol.

I am inhaling Burn Notice, atm, dreading Christmas with family a bit (mostly because of the long absence from these hereby coasts), missing kiltboy, worrying some about thesis and my slip-sliding and wandering concentration and motivation (had Steven Fry signing my DVD with 'Finish your Thesis!'...you never know!)

And I think that's all.
Oh, I'm playing chess against The Zar (my new laptop). The Zar is winning. A lot. :)

One has to laugh..right? Right?

My debit card was cloned (apparently) and I got charges on my account for more than 1000 pounds.*

Yep, I'll be the one laughing hysterically in that corner down there.

*bank was awesome and all sorts of things are being taken care of, I have to add, now I have to wait for new card and numbers and the fraud investigation to end and so on, and I should get the money back, but it was a very scary morning for a while.

I am so sorry lately I haven't been fun at all. I think someone is sending me signs, but I need an interpreter, cause I can't make sense of them. I'll try to do better in the future, re: posting.

Furious

So, there is public outcry and disgust for Ross and Brand's stupid prank call, but where is the public outcry for THIS?

Who is going to lose his/her job over this, since evidently, they are not capable of seeing the difference between a happy toddler and a beaten-to-death-soon one?
60 times, this baby boy had been seen. 60 times.

I want heads to roll, by gods.

Where is the public outcry, for this, uh? WHERE. TF. IT. IS.

It happened with Letitia. Just last year. It happens oh so often than every other news apparently is more important. :(

You know what, I hope those three adults (mother, partner and ..lodger?) responsible for this little boy's death, I hope they are beaten daily in prison, terrified and abused as they have terrified and abused this little boy.
Bastards.

Yet another update..

...I have basically slept for the last few days (okay, I have done some necessary chores in the house, and have been to my chiropractor and other daily routine stuff, but apart from that...not much, really) - have read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and have lots to say about it, but not now, and also a book on MS which was really informative and put in one place all sorts of info that I have trowled the web/med journals for, and that was useful. BUT.

The important thing is...I have a working computer.  AND a working connection! *punches air* I can't possibly catch up with  a full month of LJ entries (though I have looked when I could), and my inbox is up to 80-plus again, and I will face that tonight...mostly, I need to find my brain and connect that, too :)
I have missed VidUKon, and Connotation (reports, I want to see reports!), thanks to [livejournal.com profile] disanddat  I have caught up with SPN but last  Thursday's ep, and the first 5 T:SCC eps (I like it a lot, I'm not fannish about it, but I may end up writing for it, eventually. I certainly want to watch it!), and I also have Sons of Anarchy to watch (I'm curious) and Burn Notice to catch up with, oh, and if Martin Shaw delivers on Apparitions next Thursday...I forsee Apparitions/SPN crossovers, John Winchester and MShaw's priest/exorcist character *nods vigourously*

Also! I spent two days being selfish and went to a BASSC workshop: I have now been trained in unarmed combat and knife combat and ground fighting. AH! Am lethal. Also I have muscles (weak ones) that I didn't remember I had. Kiltboy is a very very good boy, and we likes him, precious, we do we do.

The parental unit in under control, more or less.  More on that later eventually,  although is such a depressing topic, to face mortality (of those you love, of yourself)...I feel I shouldn't approach it, I know many of you have already  dealt with it, and I don't mean to whine...but how one does it? I don't know that I can.

Anyway. More from me asap, as I catch  up with RL and such. HUGS!
