Supernatural S08 Finale
May. 17th, 2013 06:57 pm\0/
I watched it, and really, most of season 8 (season GR8, I heard it called) was brilliant, made me laugh, made me shiver, made me cheer for the boys (and Benny, and Dean, mmmm) and for everyone, and so many little touches I won't start to count them, but all funny or touching or, you know, continuity for the win.
Loved the Finale :)
I'll see if I have some time to read around for some fandom reaction :) And yay for Season 09!!!
In other news, I gave up on Revolution (sorry, Kripke) but am still watching Defiance/, and also Perception and Hannibal. None of the latter three take my breath away, but I enjoy watching them.
In other other news...I was supposed to be at VidUKon today!!!! :((( Disaster striketh.

UK TV and a book
Apr. 9th, 2009 04:13 pmBehind with all sorts of stuff, as usual, but had to pop in here to say: if you haven't, watch this (at least, if you are in a country where you can see the BBC iplayer):
Five Minutes of Heaven
"Two men must come to terms with their past if they are to face the future in this tense and powerful award-winning drama that explores the legacy of violence in Northern Ireland." (with Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, written by Guy Hibbert. 2009)
I thought is was really intense, and a good question mark on a fundamental, universal issue (there are answers, but these are the kind of questions that will be asked again and again and again, and every time the answers have to be found).
ION, I have bought the latest book in the Felix Castor novels (written by Mike Carey), so, uhm, my being behind with stuff might have something to do with that. Ops.
But, a crime novel, with tricky plots, exorcists, demons and AU England is hard to resist :D

TSCC latest eps, and a teeny tiny comment about Sarah Connor and John Wincheste, under the cut.

TV on the Beeb: Kyle XY and Young Dracula
Mar. 28th, 2009 12:13 pmI just watched a few minutes of Young Dracula on (C)BBC 2 ...and I loved it! Okay, it amused me :) Shush!
There is a talking wolf looking like grey cottonwool, the young (a bit HarryPottery annoying, lol) Dracula ("Dad, we discussed this, friends are not food, remember?"), and a slimey servant and other people. Made me smile :)
And, BBC2 is airing Kyle XY (series 1 ep2) so if you want to catch up with it, I recommend it - it's teenager oriented (although, hey, there's Nick Lea mysteriously appearing now and then), but interestingly done, sci-fi/conspiracy/mystery sort of thing, but it may grow on you like it did on me. And did I mention Nick Lea? ;)

TV: Kings 1.1
Mar. 21st, 2009 12:22 amI watched Kings and...I don't think I will be watching more of it.
It's okay, but nothing grabbed me particularly and a certain stereotype annoyed me immensely. ( spoilerish comment here )
That said, a) I can't for the life of me remember the name of the actor playing the Reverend, b)I Like him a lot, c) he's not even on the Kings' imdb page!!!

TV: Red Riding
Mar. 19th, 2009 11:08 pmI have just finished watching Red Riding (Brit TV).
Can someone tell me what they see in it? Because I thought it was clunky, slow, scattered, inconclusive, incoherent and a number of other 'bad' things. Maybe a few nice-photography scenes here and there, but that's it.
Is there something I am missing?
ION, I am bored/frustrated/useless/stuck. Watching that didn't cheer me up at all, LOL
New SPN tonight \0/

So, not a poll but almost :)
Mar. 13th, 2009 12:25 amWhile waiting for my nose to stop bleeding due to the effing cold I have (my sneezing IZ ALL POWERFUL!), whereas I am in fact waiting for tomorrow to come so I can DL SPN, should I:
1-think more about house stuff (although, I have spent the afternoon emailing people for estimates and browsing for quotes, so it's been productive)
2-reply to those kind souls who have posted their advice (and it's been really HELPFUL, you are all wonderful to me, THANK YOU)
3-look at the 300plus emails/comments in my inbox and
a: cry
b: cry and feel guilty
c:try to reply to some
4-play alchemy on line
5-catch up with TSCC eps
6-rewatch the first eps of Leverage (the season finale was sort of so-so for me, Nathan's wife didn't convince me me, but I really enjoyed all the eps till those, so it doesn't count, and also, has it been renewed? I will go looking, because I HOPE SO VERY MUCH)
7-rewatch Life S2, because :)
8-...go sleep? (so boring and overrated, beside, lying down with nosebleed, not a good idea)

What the subject line says, I suppose :)
Been watching Dollhouse ep. 2, in which I saw glimpses of perhaps the show it wants to be?
Basic premise still arguable, as in, have to take it on faith (ehhhh, unvoluntary horrible pun, lol), but ep. 2 was definitely much better. I like Amy Acker a lot in this, Boyd too, still lots of issues, but...I'm going to watch ep. 3 and see where it goes.
Leverage is FUUUUUUN! And why didn't anyone told me about Timothy Hutton being in it! Been watching him since he was a kid (since Ordinary People, and Taps, and The Falcon and The Snowman, and The Dark Half ...been watching his father, too, Jim Hutton, the original Ellery Quinn!)
Anyway, I am not analysing it, it just feels like the weird offspring of Ocean's 11 meets The Hustle meets Once a Thief (yes, I suppose the explosion got me..ohh, Once a Thief, how I cherish you, you funny thing) to me ...and it's fun, all the cast is cute and sexy and it's escapism galore :)
Red Riding was aesthetically worthy, but narrative-wise, after an initial good, creepy start, it really lost momentum and became quite flat. Sean is always worth seeing, and he was as sleazy and as evil as one can wish, but...I was bored half way through. Holding on to see Paddy Considine in the next installment, though.

TV (UK): Being Human incoming
Jan. 8th, 2009 03:24 pmAccording to THIS from the Beeb, Being Human will air around the 26th of January, six eps in all. \0/ Although, there have been changes, so it may not have the charm the original pilot had. We'll have to wait and see :)
New Doctor Who
Jan. 3rd, 2009 11:13 pmeh eh eh, New Doctor Who wank commenced already, LOL
Me, I am not a DW fangirl, though I watched most of it and all of Torchwood, but am not fannish-fannish about it, so *shrugs* it's another young white male (suspiciously looking a bit like a thinner Angel in a distorted mirror, or is that just me/the pics I've seen?), and I'd rather have had Nesbitt, but hey...we have to see the eps before complaining, methinks. Sure thing, if it had been Saunders, I'd've been jumping and bouncing :)

The Nick Lea.com Christmas 2008 online zine, because Nick Lea is Nick Lea and he manages to infuse each one of his character with something special.
Truce, by
inlaterdays, because Krycek is Krycek and unforgettable and definitely ALIVE. One-armed or not ;)
xf_pornbattle, because...well, it's a pornbattle! I'm a Krycek fan more than an X-Files fan (although I do like the series), but there is never enough porn *nods*
Yuletide, in all its glory (no Harsh Realm this year, damn!) and New Year Resolutions 2009 challenge (info on linked page), because there are so many small fandoms deserving LOVE! And so many inspiring prompts still to be fullfilled :)
Screencaps of Jeffrey Dean Morgan from the Watchmen Myspace HQ feature by
rhymeswithmagic, because I can't wait to see this film, I discovered the graphic novel only recently, just before JDM was involved in the project, and from what I've seen, the film promises to be amazing. And it's Jeff :)
A recap of Yuletide (old and new) Eastern Promises fiction by the lovely
caras_galadhon, because Eastern Promises is a great slash film and everyone should watch it and write Nikolai and Kirill fiction!
Comms for Eastern Promises fiction:
easternpromises and
epslash: go, read and enjoy :)
Write or Die, a funny tool to stimulate your writing.
Forbidden Fruit e-zine, original slash fiction magazine, very interesting, worth looking at and participating/submitting to!
tehsunny's Harsh Realm fiction, because she writes Mike Pinocchio so well - some is locked, but there is also HR fiction at

thedailywriter, a new community dedicated to encourage daily writing. I still have to look into it properly but daily writing is a Good Thing!
AND! Three actors I like very much and always make me happy when I see them:
D.B. Sweeney (various pics HERE)
(and I will have to watch Leverage, since he guest-stars in an ep, and I still have to watch Miracle at S.Anna, dammit)
I just adore him. He works like crazy, has appeared in so many films and TV series it's scary (Jericho, House, Leverage more recently) and he's just sexy and adorable.*nods*
Damian Lewis
I'll admit it, I have only seen him in Life (whose second series I just inhaled during the past few days) and as Charlie Crews, he's great. Also, I have a soft spot for ginger hair (srtrawberry, red, all variations), so I plan on catching up with hsi other work. Some pics HERE. Do watch Life, btw. It's quirky and I quite like it.
Last but not least.
David Morse. What can I say? Familiar to House fans as House nemesis in series 3, he was in The Indian Runner with Viggo Mortensen (Ahhh, Frankie :) and in dozens other films, and some big ones too. He's as tall as Jared Padalecki, and does menacing so well, and I really enjoy watching him act. Some pics HERE.

Rome update
Dec. 24th, 2008 03:20 pmIt's alive! It speaks! It's in Rome!
Sunny and cold, but nice to be with family. Will try and make the best of it.
I Wish happiness to those of you celebrating, and equal happiness to those of you not celebrating: *BIG HUGS*
I'm taking decisions re: how to cope with Life demands and Uni demands, and I am utterly grateful to all of you for your support and advice, more than I can express here.
*******
Fandom-wise...why isn't anyone talking about Charlie Crews (sp?) and LIFE? Second series is just as good as the first one! Okay, it's not highly dramatic/suspenseful/angsty, but it's witty and charming and female character is great! Do watch. I will catch up on the most recent six eps asap amd will demand chat about it afterwards!
*******
Even more important...
This site is organizing donations to a dog charity for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's next birthday, with Jeff's Mum's knowledge and collaboration:
The Great Jeffrey Dean Birthday Project!!!

Yes, yes, I know, everyone and their dogs are doing something like this, for this or that celebrity, but hey, it's Jeff. He rescued Bisou, and he's keen on helping this charity dedicated to stray dogs (also old ones or ill ones that no one wants) and he's got fans too! Would be nice to show support. I will pimp this regularly, there is lots of time before April :D

It's 3 am...
Dec. 12th, 2008 03:03 am..and I'm awake! and bored! not awake enough that I could do something useful, alas, but not asleep enough to actually be, you know, ASLEEP! And I have to be up early tomorrow and do Important Stuff (might be why I am not sleeping, who knows..)...AHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I'm finishing reading Sidetracked, by Henning Mankel, btw, aka Wallander. I saw a couple of eps on the telly and I was curious to compare the book to the adaptation. I have to say, Wallander is beautifully filmed, it has a very atmospheric feel to it, which renders the Swedishness of the characters/settings quite well. However, I don't think it would work without Kenneth Branagh playing Wallander (Branagh being the reason why I wanted to watch it in the first place), because the pace, if you are not taken in by the gorgeous photography and nuances of silence and terse dialogues, can be slow.
The book I'm reading is the fifth in the series, whereas it was the first adapted for the series, so a number of elements are of course changed. The book is...uhm. I don't want to say boring, because it isn't. I will read another so that I am not distracted by knowing who's who already. But the detail is somewhat excruciating, in that each action - most of them anyway - is scrupolously recorded and reported, open door, close door, sit down, get up, etc etc. The plot devices aren't anything new, hints thrown in close to the beginning that Wallander himself conveniently 'forgets' for a while until they suddenly become o'so useful. Still, it is a pleasant read.
*taps fingers on desk*
Nope, not sleepy yet...
ETAAlso! I feel no shame in confessing a long standing appreciation for one Brian Austin Green - BAG..I ask you...? anyway- since the long bygone times of BH92010 (yes, I am that old), appreciation that's just blossoming with his appearing in TSCC and relative interviews: the boy has grown sooooo well :DDD

Sooo. Yesterday was quite a fun day. In between routine things, I went to Jarrolds and met Steven Fry!!!
He was signing the new book, and all his other books, and he was utterly charming and well mannered and TALL! Well, he was sitting as he was signing, of course, but I was close to the end of the queue, so I was around when he finally stood up. He has a firm handshake, a warm hand and a biig big one :) I like him *nods*
Later, while I was going on errands, I bumped into Martin Shaw. Literally, I was coming out of a shop and there were so many people, so I avoided a woman with kid and bumped into Martin. Exchanged a perfunctorily polite 'sorry' and walked on and then did a U turn, lol. He was clean shaven, wearing glasses, carrying some big gift-wrapped parcel in a plastic bag,and with his new lady. They went to Gap. Then to the car park. And at that point I could have tried to stop him and say something (about Apparitions, for example), there was no one around, so no risk of attracting too much attention to him (though there were a few excited doubletakes now and then) but at the end of the day, he was going on about his business and it didn't feel right. Besides, it's not the first time I see him, since I came to live here, so there might be other, better occasions. He was talking all posh, lol.
I am inhaling Burn Notice, atm, dreading Christmas with family a bit (mostly because of the long absence from these hereby coasts), missing kiltboy, worrying some about thesis and my slip-sliding and wandering concentration and motivation (had Steven Fry signing my DVD with 'Finish your Thesis!'...you never know!)
And I think that's all.
Oh, I'm playing chess against The Zar (my new laptop). The Zar is winning. A lot. :)
