Something worth reading about the very recent issues with Amazon: an alternative explanation for what went down. And to be honest, it makes a lot more sense to me than a corporation willingly and massively making enemies of its most important commodity: buyers.

Read HERE.

In other terms...could this be cyberterrorism? Digital Terrrorism? It bares considering, at least.

Also, isn't it bitterly amusing that now ALL that happens on the web, it happens because of Twitter? Yes, possibly the numbers are in favour of Twitters, but all these 'news' people seems to forget that most twitterers also have a blog, a LJ, a wordpress page, and so on and so forth. Ah,to jump in on the latest wagon trend, so cool. /sarcasm

Really...

I have decided to buy a Mac for graphics/vidding/editing. I'm a slow/careful buyer, which means I'll take my time looking at what's available, but if there were no holds barred, what Mac would you get (esp for graphics and vidding)? What software? I've got loads of software/shareware/freeware for pc, for ripping source and mp3 and mixing sound/music and so on, but what would you get for a Mac? It's been something like 15 years since I had a Mac :) things change.

Life is short, enjoy each and every moment of it.

I'm off to Italy again on Thursd. then back here on the 7th but off to Scotland until the 12th...and will have to go back to Italy for another week soon after. Oh joy.

My brother told me that my cat Mimmi has taken a turn for the worse. It's off to the vets again on Friday, and decision making time, apparently. I'm heartbroken. There are huge, fundamental issues in the world needing solving, friends going through very harsh stuff, I know. Mimmi's just a cat. But I love him. I hope against hope that there is still something to do, but won't have him suffer in vain. It just hurts so much. It's just a tiny life. Preemptive thank yous for good thoughts sent his way.

Still behind with email and tagging of comms (I barely managed to drag myself to my teaching course yesterday, back-ache galore here :( but...

TODAY IS SAM & DEAN DAY!: SPN IS BACK! (tomorrow for me, but still)

Also.

Being Human commissioned for a 6 eps season run!
Those of you that remember my entries about this quirky Brit pilot about a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost sharing a house..be happy! :D

Also also!
[livejournal.com profile] disanddat is a treasure and got me DRAGONS PRESSIES for my birthday!!! (which is in a couple of days): *DANCES* Dragonology and the Care of Baby Dragons...good thing I can't move around much, perfect excuse to curl up (sensibly) and lose myself in DragonLand...Temeraire, Temeraire! July is too far away!

As to The Boobs Open Source Project Thingy....well. I'm assuming you've seen enough links around already. It just goes to show how objectified women are, and how blind many are to it. I have lost count of the times I've been sexually harassed in various ways, from insistent ogling to verbal comments/abuse to downright physical threats/unwanted contact...I always feel unsafe. Always. Most men have no idea what living like that is like, with everything around you telling you how you should be/look/behave, wanting your money and therefore inventing all sorts of impossible standards for you to pursue by buying this or that product. And so on.
Where can I sign for the Squeeze Balls/Kick Nuts Projects? Because reasoning doesn't seem to work at all.

Anthony Minghella's death is a bit of a shock. I had many issues with his films, but still. :(

Okay, sitting is becoming a tad too achey, so, (mis)behave! *hugs all*

I have skipped back to 180 entries on the LJ f-list and not even looked at the JF...I can't make it all the way back. Sorry. Poke me in the comments if you need me to see something!

And thank you :)

Because procrastination is an ART, people, and making multiple copies from one organiser to another*, one calendar to another and the ultimate reminder here on the journals...EH. That's PROCRASTINATION. *G*

Organized, but still PROCRASTINATION.

Yes, sometimes I'm pretty much in love with myself. *G*

* btw, you people don't know this, but I have a John Winchester-style journal, up to and including pics of the wee!boys and mysterious sekrit coded numerical messages left for Dean, personalized for me by [livejournal.com profile] disanddat - I ADORE it.

Okay, so. Next few weeks program, kind of )

Uhm. Okay.
The Full List of Things To Do counts...24 items. But many are quick and easy to do, it's more about willingness and fighting inertia than anything else.

Oh, and job applications on Tuesday. Full on.

Then there's the List of FanFiction I Am Supposedly Writing.
(I am! Just...there is so much of it, and I'm so RL busy and therefore sloooow!)

Oh, and I have these books:
read already:
Atonement, by McEwan
Mr. Impossible, by Loretta Chase
Not Quite a Lady, by Loretta Chase (what? *G* they are easy, fun, quick and saucy! Shut up ;)

to read:
Lord Perfect, by Loretta Chase,
Temeraire, by Naomi Novik

actually reading:
Night Watch Trilogy, by Sergei Lukyanenko
(and oh but I LIKE it! A perfect universe to play in, and yes, a certain Russian double agent fits in perfectly *G*)

There should be a simple, fundamental shared meaning for this word, and it's certainly something that we want for ourselves.
It's only fair that it should be given to everyone else.

[livejournal.com profile] dodger_winslow talks about respect, HERE.

Personally, I also wish there was a lot more respect for women, from women (in fandom and in the world) - I don't see much of it around, frankly.
phantomas: (Default)
and no, not in my dingaling. *G* {refers to Twining ad with Steven Fry)

I just realized it's been a while since I randomly blabbered about ME ME ME! here. Non sia mai.

About Life, The Univer- writing, fandom and so on, under the cut )

Haven't written a word yesterday (Sunday? Can't remember, will check) so I hope to make up today for that, eventually. --> me=blah. Waste of an individual, if you ask me.

In part, I got sidetracked by all the SPN Creation Con reports, photos, VIDEOS!
The fantastic [livejournal.com profile] super_wiki site has a full list of links to peruse. And Sam Ferris put a mini con report on her blog, too. How much does that woman rock, uh? :D

I can't tell enough THANK YOU to all the fans that went and shared their squee with the rest of us stuck in non-con land...
...(HAHA, that's funny *G* at times I do surprise myself). Sometimes Fandom is a bit PITA, but most of the times, Fandom is Love :D

And then, THIS.
For those of you who haven't seen OZ, you should. Yes, there is violence, goriness, foul language, male full frontals and all around nastiness, but if a show deserved to win awards and prizes, it was this one.

The following clip is at the end of the last season. Just a juicy morself that the writers throw us and the conclusion of Miguel Alvarez's story arc and ..the beginning of something. Bobby Cannavale (Third Watch, Kingpin) as Torquemada in all his splendour, even with a fake eyes and Billy Idol/Spike blond hair, just appears for this brief scene and another one, iirc, but wow....isn't this an intense, excellent, angst-ridden, sexual tension heavy moment.

There's nothing more than two men talking, in this clip. Do watch it. It's worth it.
PS. Cannavale is really, really tall. *G*

phantomas: (Default)
Kripke (and Joss Whedon, and others ;) showed up to support the writers' strike today. There will be details posted later on [livejournal.com profile] supernatural_tv.

YAY!

*sighs* I suppose the boys will get some unexpected free time soon.

Does anyone know how this strike affects - or not - the shooting of films?
I'm thinking of Watchmen, yes, why do you ask? :)
phantomas: (Default)
Have been a bit remiss with usual activities, but was/am a bit blah still, though know I know that's it's minor stomach-bug-flu thingy unsettling me (will spare you details, ain't I magnanimous? ;)

So, in case you haven't stumbled upon it already:

Trailers about the SFX team behind SPN's scary things that go bump in the night and assorted human bits, found HERE and HERE.
(found via [livejournal.com profile] x5vale, thank you :D)

As to the WRITERS (WGA) strike, I know the strike will hit us (the fans) where it hurts most (figuratively), and will hit lots of other people and create problems, but the reasons for striking seem really right.

You can find more info here:
WGA Supporters
(fans across fandoms organising activities to support the writers strikes)

[livejournal.com profile] zillah975 posted about it here, with plenty of reference links for more info.

I support the writers', btw. I'm sure I've missed something, but the gist is there.

Also, the HP fandom and related wanks never cease to entertain *G*
phantomas: (Default)
For them it's still commercial, of course, another way of making business, but at least the ideas underpinning it all are GOOD.

Have a look for yourself.

- finish/post meta for spn_heavymeta!

In other news *points at icon* I'm declaring my writing status as to the month of November.
Please bear with me, I'll kick myself into giving precedence to writing before anything else, so ping/email me if you need my attention elsewhere :)

*is excited*

ETA 2: written so very quickly for [livejournal.com profile] halcyon_shift scare-a-thon:

"They say it happens when you least expect it.
They say it's so fast you don't realize it.
They say it's just another phase.

But when it does happen...when the blade comes down, when the trigger clicks, when the door slams and there's no wind...when you look into the darkness and bright yellow eyes look back at you, then you know.

You do expect it.
It's not fast.
It never, ever ends."

ETA 3: had to have a nap *sighs* also, our Japanese housemate keeps having people for dinner (which means from 6 pm to 12 pm and onwards) without EFFING telling us!
Adding clips/rip to do for LD to list of Things to Do Today. *nods*
phantomas: (do you steps)
Because I can. And I will!!!!

Spent the morning looking for jobs/writing applications, etc. Damn time consuming. Found a couple of jems *crosses fingers*

-A few more to look at/apply for. Yesss.

-Need to refresh the old CV.

-summaries to write for CJ at least a first draft.

-Drabbles to write, YAY!

-Papawinchester comms to tag and care for.

-68 comments/emails to reply to...*hides* only 19 left! *wins!*

- pay rent always useful *g*

Let's see what gets stroked off this list.

(that sounds pervy to me..is it pervy? Stroke me off, he murmured with his eyes closed.....yep. Pervy.)

ETA: two hours nap. Damn.
phantomas: (Default)
WANTS. *makes grabby hands*

It's sold out. Maybe they'll make some more if enough of us ask them?

I sort of collect only two type of items:

a) model-cars from TV shows that I LOVE, which means I have the Pros' silver and bronze Capris and two versions of Starsky & Hutch's Torino (tiny one and medium size one)...so one day I HAVE to have an Impala.

and

b) mugs. Which are difficult, because it's not just any mugs, but mugs that mean something to me (for example, I have a fantastic, huge HOUSTON mug that [livejournal.com profile] art_of_mayhem gave me as Christmas pressie a couple of years ago; a Trinity College Dublin mug from the conference I went to there; a mug from Miami, bought when I went to the HL Cruise; a LotR mug with the One Ring that changes color once you put hot liquind in the mug, to celebrate the films....so, it's not exactly the shape of the mug, or the quality/cost - I do prefer bigger/solid/sturdy not expensive/fragile ones - but places I went to, people, events.)

Of course, this means that I can drink lots and lots of mint infusion every day without ever having to wash a new mug ;) for days!

ETA: OH! SPN mug!

And other pretty SPN things here...CineQuest dot com

ETA2: my reason for browsing that site, btw, was the announcement of 6" figures incoming (and also a John Winchester minibust! Though I don't like minibusts that much, or at all, but if the action figures are decent...My Boromir, Aragorn and Lurtz might have company in the future :D
article is HERE

But juicy morsels like this can't be ignored:

JKR says that Dumbledore is gay!

*waits to see the HP fandom hit by this...*
phantomas: (Default)
..just so I know what I've done this (late) morning and why I haven't had lunch yet, the provider being incredibly slow being one of the reasons why it all took this long...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

-posted mood piece to [livejournal.com profile] poorboyshuffle
-posted short new piece to [livejournal.com profile] nexus_verse
-checked the spn newsletter for John stories (something I do regularly and damn time consuming, because I get distracted and read stories! but necessary, wouldn't want to miss a John story)
-posted a couple of links/rec to [livejournal.com profile] papawinchester
-read and commented to a few stories
-checked f-list, left a few comments here and there
-tagged [livejournal.com profile] papawinchester recent entries (I make a point of tagging AND reading everything that's posted to the comm)
-opened a comm for my own spn au scifi verse (I like to keep it tidy and in one place): [livejournal.com profile] screamersverse

FOOD. NOW.
Will it be a late lunch, or a very early dinner??? *headdesks*
phantomas: (Default)
Ohhh, I'm so tired. House cleaning wears me out like nothing else. A little rambling, going here and there...

...caught the end of the first ep of GA's third season. Denny's message on the answering machine..."Everything's goign to be different.."
*bawls like a baby*

...Frasier is still the funniest, most perfect comic series ever written. There isn't an episode that fails.

...Scrubs is lovely. Not as funny as Frasier, but Doctor Cox wins. I like grumpy guys, what can I say.

...Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus in Rome are such a sterotypical buddy couple, for now at least, that it seems risible to like them so much, and yet I do. *nods* Now, I only need to find/read hard core slash about them and I'll be happy.

...done a little Nexus writing *waves to [livejournal.com profile] disanddat*.

...added a few more lines to 'Dean meets Krycek' spaceverse scene.

...avoided to check SPN challenges I should be writing for. Erm. two that I can think of, at least. no, make that three.

...[livejournal.com profile] papawinchester has had an average posting of 2,5 entries per day since January. Cool :D

...I miss John Winchester :(

...is it can be SPN third season tiem plz?

...I can't possibly go to sleep at 10 pm! There's still light outside!

...have you ever seen a more pointless entry than this? *shakes head on self*

Sweet dreams to all, whenever your time zone gets you in bed.

Total random post of the day...

ITEM ONE - I may be having hot pervy thoughts for the first dancing (blue, horned, tailed, not-human, digital character) guy in this vid
(taken from [livejournal.com profile] digital_opium)...he has a TAIL! and he's BLUE!

Perhaps I've been watching too much Farscape recently...

ITEM TWO - The Spanish Gardner...ahhhh, the classics! Brit film made in 1956, with Dirk Bogarde. It's been widely analyzed in terms of masculinity and homoerotic subtext, a rite of passage for a stuffed Brit man and his son faced with the exploding and sensual masculinity of the Spanish gardner ... only Bogarde certainly wasn't Spanish *G*
Still, the slash tension between the Brit diplomat and the gardner is sizzling, and with the boy being the point of contention of their affection, it all makes for a very pervy enjoyable viewing.

ITEM THREE - as much as it obviously is a way to expand their sales and their target, still...DOVE campaign for real beauty at least brings ads for older women with actual, real older women on our telly, and the same for women that do not wear size zero...and this film says more than a thousands words...worth considering and appreciating, imo.

ITEM FOUR - I may have applied for [livejournal.com profile] spn_harlequin..okay, I have applied, I am waiting to see if I'm accepted or not (nothing personal if I'm not, there are only so many prompts - 72 - so the one I asked for might be taken already...)...and I haven't even asked if I could write John Winchester in it! SHAME ON ME! ETA: yesss, I can. Any genre, SPN or SPN RPS. *waits for approval*

Anyway, this forces me to formalize the fiction I'm working on at the moment, so that I have to keep at it said fiction bunnies listed under the cut tag not exactly in priority order apart from the first two )

I have probably forgotten something, but most of all...
Damn.
I need to stop reading fiction if I want to write any of that! There just isn't enough time! It's not fair!

*G*

MTV ad

May. 28th, 2007 09:13 pm
phantomas: (Default)
From [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope....MTV ad against driving when high...although apparently kissing it'll make smooch your brother...

kind of entertaining, for obvious reasons, and also...which 'creative' came up with this? Most importantly, what was he high on at the time?
I think there could be worthwhile observations to be made on the conceptual parallels needed to make sure that the message reaches the average (white) male brain, but my aca-fu is distracted by NCIS. OPs.
